Brad Gaines, former Vanderbilt University football player and the father of conservative political activist Riley Gaines, is entering the race for Tennessee’s 6 th Congressional District.

Gaines filed his statement of candidacy with the Federal Election Commission on Aug. 25. He’s now the fifth Republican candidate to throw a hat into the ring for the seat in U.S. Congress that will be vacated once incumbent U.S. Rep. John Rose, R-Cookeville, leaves office. Rose had previously filed for reelection to his seat in Congress but punted to join the race for Tennessee governor instead in late March .
