DE PERE, Wis. (WBAY) - Students in the Unified School District of De Pere are headed back to class Thursday.

There will be an increased police presence by De Pere Police for the first couple of days of the New Year, which is standard procedure.

This is to ensure safety, encourage safe driving skills during school drop off and pick up.

This serves as a reminder to drivers to:

-slow down

-stop for pedestrians

-watch for children

A lot of these kids are really excited to see their friends and teachers. Officials ask drivers to be extra cautious and mindful of more pedestrians walking, maybe even running to and from school.

The peak times will be an hour before and after school hours.
