DETROIT, MI — Amid declining sales, Pepsi is laying off over 80 workers and shoring up operations in Detroit.
PepsiCo issued a Workers Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act notice late last month stating it would discontinue production, maintenance and transport operations at its facility at 1555 Mack Ave. in Detroit. Approximately 83 employees would be terminated effective Sept. 27.
The federal WARN Act requires businesses to provide advance notice - at least 60 days - in cases of qualified plant closings and mass layoffs.
The company’s warehouse, fleet, delivery sales and field-service technician teams will continue to operate at the Mack Avenue facility, the letter stated.
