GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP — County, local and social agencies teamed up recently to offer services to the area's homeless population at the Church by the Bay on the White Horse Pike.

More than 100 homeless people attended the Aug. 21 event, which provided food, showers, clothing and social services.

Organizers said planning for the event had started a month before, after government officials here and in Absecon announced a joint effort to address a growing number of people in their communities needing housing and assistance.

"Many volunteers worked together to provide a hot meal, clothing, showers, socks, toiletries and food pantry items," said Atlantic County spokeswoman Linda Gilmore. The county, the Mental Health Association Atlantic County and the church organized the event
