PAMLICO COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - Pamlico County deputies say a registered sex offender who had previously been deported led them on a chase yesterday.

Deputies say they tried to stop Alex Alcerro for careless and reckless driving in the Stonewall area.

The man took off, deputies say, leading them on a short chase. They say he got out of the vehicle and was in a physical altercation with deputies.

Alcerro received minor injuries before being taken into custody.

Deputies say the man is not a U.S. citizen and is also a registered sex offender in California.

He is charged with felony flee to elude, felony assault on law enforcement causing injury, aggressive driving, failure to heed lights and siren, and resisting a public officer.
