Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA), who is a physician, had a lot of concerns when Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was appointed to the post. Still, the doctor voted to confirm Kennedy despite his concerns.
This week, a large group of officials and top leaders at the Centers for Disease Control resigned or were fired after the director, Dr. Susan Monarez, was shoved out of her post after only a few weeks.
The firing comes just weeks before the vaccine advisory board is set to meet, and Cassidy is demanding that it be paused.
According to the Washington Post's Dan Diamond, Cassidy thinks that any decisions made will be questionable at best.
"If the meeting proceeds, any recommendations made should be rejected as lacking legitimacy given the seriousness of the allegations and the current turmoil in CDC leadership," said Cassidy.
"Serious allegations have been made about the meeting agenda, membership, and lack of scientific process being followed for the now announced September ACIP meeting. These decisions directly impact children's health and the meeting should not occur until significant oversight has been conducted," he demanded.
