The local Salvation Army is putting a call out to the community for donations after seeing a noticeable drop in the number of items being received at its thrift store in Port Elgin.

The organization, which supports people in need in Grey and Bruce counties, is hoping the community can help fill the gap by bringing gently used items to the store.

Joanne Young, director of programs with the local Salvation Army, said Thursday that lately they have noticed fewer donations of items like household goods, clothing and small furniture at their location in Port Elgin.

“The store has been a fixture in that community for well over 20 years,” Young said. “This past year for many reasons, some which we can’t necessarily pinpoint, we have seen a drop in donations.”
