TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — A driver was injured after police say they drove their SUV around two stopped vehicles at a railroad crossing before being struck by a train Thursday morning in Terre Haute .

According to a release from the Vigo County Sheriff's Office, around 8:15 a.m. on Aug. 28, deputies were called to North Erickson Street near East Devonald Avenue , which is just northwest of Terre Haute, on a report that a train had struck a vehicle.

When officers arrived, they were told by witnesses that a white Toyota SUV was traveling southbound on Erickson Street when they passed two stopped vehicles at a railroad crossing. Witnesses said the crossing's lights and signals were operating normally.

That's when a CSX train crashed into the SUV.
