A man was pronounced dead at the scene following a crash involving a pedestrian and a white Volvo HGV.

The incident took place between J5 and J6, around 12.40pm on Thursday, August 28.

This comes after motorists on the M8 near West Lothian were warned of major delays when the motorway was closed in both directions.

Emergency services attended, however the man died at the scene. His family has been informed and enquiries are ongoing.

We reported earlier in the day on traffic at a standstill on the M8 between junction five and six, on the outskirts of West Lothian as police responded to a "man found injured" in the road.

Road users were urged to avoid the area and live traffic camera images from Traffic Scotland shows motorists nose-to-tail.
