Kincardine’s history in the salt industry has been commemorated with a new plaque.

On Aug. 23, Mayor Ken Craig joined members of Heritage Kincardine for an official unveiling ceremony during the Marine Heritage Festival.

“Heritage Kincardine has done incredible work to preserve and share the stories that define who we are as a community,” Craig is quoted in a news release. “This plaque not only honours our history, but it also gives residents and visitors a chance to connect with the people and industries that built Kincardine.”

Installed at MacPherson Park, also known as Tiny Tots Park, the new plaque highlights the local salt industry during the 19th century through the story of Rightmeyer Salt Works, which once operated on the site, exporting thousands of barrels
