The Alberta government will introduce a levy on large-scale data centres — a step the province says will help ensure Albertans benefit as demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure grows.

Beginning Dec. 31, 2026, a two per cent levy on computer hardware will apply to grid-connected data centres with a capacity of 75 megawatts or higher.
