A driver was cited for reckless driving after losing control of his car and crashing into a ditch on the Main Strip last night, authorities said.

Police said the solo crash happened as the driver was traveling west on Smith-Enke Road and attempted to turn north onto John Wayne Parkway at a high rate of speed. The driver lost control, veered off the road and plunged into a ditch just before 10:30 p.m.

Lyft driver Deb Chern was sitting in the right turn lane when she saw a car speeding in her rear-view mirror. It was coming right for her as she was stopped, waiting to cross JWP, she said in an interview.

“He must have been going 60 miles an hour,” Chern said today. “He was screeching his tires making that turn.”
