IONIA COUNTY, Mich. (WILX) - A case of West Nile Virus has been found in Iona County, the Health Department confirmed Thursday afternoon.

It’s the first case of the mosquito-borne illness in Ionia County in 2025.

Most people with West Nile Virus (WNV) won’t experience any symptoms.

Approximately one in five will develop a mild, fliluke illness. One in 150 will develop a severe illness affecting the central nervous system, which can be fatal.

Those over 50 have the highest risk of developing illness from WNV.

There are no treatments or vaccines for WNV.

The best way to avoid the disease is to:
