COLLEGE STATION, Texas (CW39) — With hunting season now underway in Texas, hunters are asked to take extra precautions to prevent wildfires. Especially in regions where dry vegetation remains, despite recent rainfall.

The Texas A&M Forest Service said areas including the Rolling Plains, Eastern Hill Country, South Texas, and the Lower Gulf Coast are still at risk for even small troublesome wildfires in late August and early September. They also said that even though large uncontrollable fires are not expected, officials warn that even minor ones can can happen given the right conditions.

Even a small spark can quickly ignite a wildfire under the right conditions. Texans are encouraged to stay alert and be aware of hazards that can cause a wildfire while hunting this season.
