This week marks the final days for a South Surrey restaurant that has been open at King George Boulevard and 24 Avenue for more than 50 years.

The Golden Lion, located at 2377 King George Blvd., is to close Aug. 31, with "upcoming land development" cited as the reason for its shuttering.

"We are deeply grateful for the support you and your families have shown us over the years," a notice shared earlier this summer states.

"Together, we have witnessed decades of growth and change, and every moment spent with you has become a cherished memory for us."

The restaurant opened around 1970.
