Two of erie's biggest festivals have come and gone, and City of Erie Mayor Joe Schember was reacting to the success.

CelebratErie and Tall Ships Erie drew crowds to downtown and the bayfront during the month of August.

Schember said both festivals were successful and called them a great experience. He said it's rewarding to see the festivals bring people together from near and far.

"In Erie, we have a lot of diversity and I think we celebrate that diversity with these events, and I want to do that. I think every person living in Erie should be treated with respect and honor and that's what I do as mayor and I hope everyone will eventually be doing that as well," he said.

Schember said he will miss running the festivals as the mayor when they make their return.
