Aberdeen will be playing in the Europa Conference League this season after the 10-man Dons fell to a 3-0 defeat against FCSB in Bucharest.

In a week where Scotland's coefficient has taken a battering, few would have expected Jimmy Thelin's side to be the ones with the best chance of salvaging some pride on the continent.

But a controversial Alexander Jensen red card proved fatal for Aberdeen's chances of reaching the Europa League , with Darius Olaru's penalty giving the hosts a 3-2 lead on aggregate at the break.

Adrian Șut and a second from Olaru saw the Romanians race into a 3-0 lead on the night, and by then the job was done leaving Thelin's men wounded and forced to settle for a place in Europe's third tier.
