An Edmonton senior has been hospitalized after a stabbing in a parking lot in north Edmonton on Thursday morning.

Just before 9:30 a.m. officers were called to reports of an assault in the area of 96 Street and 162 Avenue, said an Edmonton Police Service spokesperson in an email to Postmedia.

Police say two men got into a ‘verbal’ exchange when one of the men stabbed the other and fled on a bicycle.

A 64-year-old man was treated on scene by emergency crews and transported to hospital with serious injuries. Police say the man remains in hospital and is in stable condition.

Investigators were able to get a description of the other man from witnesses on scene and a short time later a 33-year-old man was taken into custody and charges are pending.
