The Claremont School District had its first day of school on Thursday, despite auditors recently finding that it has millions of dollars of debt, which cast doubt on whether they could open.

Shortly after classes started, the district issued a news release stating that Superintendent Christopher Pratt has been placed on “non-disciplinary, paid administrative leave.”

SAU 6 Human Resources Director Patrick O’Hearn will fill Pratt’s position as temporary acting superintendent, the release states.

Executive Assistant Chelsea Weatherford said Pratt was placed on leave after meeting with the SAU 6 School Board on Tuesday. This board meeting was a non-public session.
