Two people are dead, and three others are injured after a house fire in Limestone County.

Firefighters say they got a call that a 27-year-old man and his 7-year-old son were trapped in a home off Alabama Highway 251 in Ardmore at 12:19 Thursday morning.

Five people were inside the home when the fire started. A mother, a 9-year-old child, and an infant escaped with minor injuries and were taken to the hospital.

WAAY 31 later spoke with the mother, who said the 27-year-old man was a hero for saving her and two of the kids. She said he then tried saving their 7-year-old but got trapped in the back of the house.

Despite life-saving measures, the father and 7-year-old were pronounced dead at the scene.
