The Huntsville Police Department is ramping up efforts to ensure student safety with its "Zero in the Zone" initiative. This campaign, launched this back-to-school season, aims to reduce school zone crashes and risky driving behaviors.
Ruby Hollinrake, supervisor of the Safety Patrol Aides at HPD, emphasized the importance of the initiative. “Zero in the zone was started because we absolutely want these students to be safe when they are going to school and even when they're going home,” Hollinrake said.
Throughout the month, Huntsville Police officers and safety patrol aides are actively patrolling school zones to enforce traffic laws. The focus is on reminding drivers to slow down, pay attention, and heed officers' directions.
