Although a handful of games were played last weekend, the college football season really gets going this week with most teams playing their season openers.

Here are Tulsa World staff predictions on major conference winners, the national champion and three other semifinalists and the Heisman Trophy winner.

National champion

Eric Bailey : Georgia. Plenty to replace from last year, but coaching staff will have team playing well late.

Bill Haisten : Georgia. If Bulldogs roll into October 4-0, they are destined for another championship.

Juwan Lee : Texas. Deep roster with a better quarterback than it had last year.

Barry Lewis : Notre Dame. Marcus Freeman doesn't get enough credit as one of college football's top coaches.

Michael Peters : Clemson. The Tigers win first national title
