EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEVV) — A 20-year-old Newburgh man is in the Vanderburgh County Jail on rape and strangulation charges after being accused of raping a victim in a University of Southern Indiana dorm room, according to deputies.

In late September of 2024, authorities say they were contacted about a rape that had happened on the campus of USI.

Deputies say they spoke with the victim at the hospital, who said she had met the suspect, Landon Hein, over a dating app, before having him over to her dorm.

After her friends left the dorm, the victim told authorities she was raped and assaulted by Hein, and that he left before her friends came back.

Detectives say they brought Hein in for an interview. They say he denied knowing the victim and denied communicating with anyone who lives on camp
