Police detained a suspect after responding to a report of a possible gun at Wilson Elementary School near Ashlan and Hughes Avenues in Fresno on Thursday afternoon.

Officers were called to the campus around 1:24 p.m., the Fresno Police Department said. Authorities said they are working to determine whether the item was a firearm.

Fresno police are on the scene and ask the public to please avoid the area to minimize interference.

Police said more information will be released as it becomes available.
