A future Chippawa Willoughby Community Centre may be smaller than initially proposed.

But how much smaller will depend on city council.

Politicians Tuesday directed city staff to work with community stakeholders to finalize options for reduced square footage and to use a progressive design build method to fast track the project and deliver it on time and within budget.

Progressive design builds integrate design and construction services into a single contract.

Staff will return to council prior to a final design and budget for approval, and report “key milestones” throughout the project.

Last month, the project architect presented a proposed 9,635-square-metre, $65-million to $75-million project.
