A Pomona man was recently charged with abusing and killing a 66-year-old man he was taking care of, police announced Thursday, Aug. 28.

The caretaker, 42-year-old Paul Jonathan Donnell, appeared Tuesday at Pomona Superior Court for an arraignment which was continued to Sept. 25, court records show.

Police headed to the 700 block of North East End Avenue on Friday, Aug. 22, on a call about a man who had fallen in the tub and needed CPR, according to a police statement.

Officers and firefighters found an unresponsive man, Ollie Johnson, who had injuries inconsistent with the explanation given by his caretaker, police said. Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police didn’t reveal what those injuries were and what were the inconsistencies in Donnell’s version of events.
