The clock is getting ever closer to midnight, and there is no new deal in place for teachers across the province.
As negotiations continue between the Alberta Teachers’ Association and the Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association, families across the province are staring down the possibility that schools might not be in session after the Labour Day weekend. The ATA has been in a strike position since May, when its membership authorized strike action if needed. The ATA is required to give a 72-hour notice before its members can head to the picket lines. Meanwhile, the province has the power to lock the teachers out.
