(NewsNation) — The father of Emmanuel Haro has denied the missing child was a victim of abuse.

Baby Emmanuel was reported missing by his parents, Jake and Rebecca Haro, on Aug. 14 and has not been seen since. Authorities believe Emmanuel Haro is now dead, and both parents have been arrested and currently remain in jail.

Jake Haro spoke with the Orange County Register in a jailhouse interview, denying Emmanuel Haro was a long-term abuse victim. He was given a suspended sentence for a separate child abuse case in 2018, allowing him to avoid prison.

The victim was his daughter, Promise Faith, who was just 10 weeks old at the time of the abuse and suffered numerous injuries, leaving her permanently bedridden.
