KANSAS CITY, Kan. — FOX4 is learning more about the criminal past of the man accused of killing Kansas City, Kansas Police Officer Hunter Simoncic.
Prosecutors have opened the door to seeking the death penalty for Dennis Mitchell III, who was charged with one count of capital murder. Wyandotte County District Attorney Mark Dupree also charged Mitchell with one count of attempting to elude police, two counts of theft and one count of criminal possession of a weapon by a felon.
Since December, Mitchell has been arrested twice, and one of those times was in Wyandotte County. In mid-December of 2024, Mitchell was charged with one count of possession of methamphetamine, which is a felony. He was also charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, which are misdemeanors.
