SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - An outdoor entertainment area wasn’t the only project approved by the South Bend Redevelopment Commission on Thursday.
Officials approved the second phase of the city’s development project on the St. Joseph River in the East Bank neighborhood.
This will bring 25 apartment units right next to the existing seven-story tower building on E. Colfax Avenue.
City officials say this project will take advantage of underutilized space in downtown area and bring more tax revenues to the city government.
“Right now, it’s paying essentially no taxes as a parking lot, and after this project is completed, it’s going to be paying up to half a million dollars a year in property taxes,” said Joseph Molnar, the assistant director of growth and opportunity for the City of South
