BUFFALO, Wyo — The search for a missing climber from Lakeville, Minnesota came to a tragic end after his body was discovered in the Cloud Peak Wilderness in Wyoming, authorities confirmed.

The body of Grant Gardner was found near a high-altitude ledge by a professional climbing team from North Carolina on the evening of Aug. 26, according to the Big Horn County Sheriff's Office.

The climbing team, who had just summited Cloud Peak and were preparing for a Woolsey Peak ascent the next day, spotted what appeared to be a backpack reflecting light a few hundred feet above their camp. Due to fading daylight and safety concerns, they could not investigate further that evening.

The team immediately notified the Sheriff's Office via satellite and agreed to halt their climbing plans to assist
