ST PAUL, Minn. — It could be better — but it could be worse.

The Minnesota Department of Education released its North Star Accountability report early Friday, tracking performance on the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCAs) for public school students in grades K-12.

Of Minnesota students who took the 2025 MCAs, 45.2% met or exceeded proficiency standards in math, and 49.6% met or exceeded the English standards.

While those numbers haven't budged beyond one percentage point for the last two years, Education Commissioner Willie Jett said the consistency is a signal for potential growth down the road.

"These scores reflect stable proficiency and suggest a solid foundation for long-term gains," Jett said.

Data on science tests will be released later this fall.
