PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- With children and teenagers heading back to the classroom, cybersecurity experts are warning scammers are targeting families and students alike.
Cybersecurity expert Patrick Laverty tells 12 News parents and students need to be on alert, especially when they receive online coupon offers and "things that just seem too good to be true."
"You're going to get emails that are offering you great deals with links, and a lot of times those are going to look like they're official stores, but they're not," Laverty said, advising people should always double check offers on company websites independently from the email offers.
