MEMPHIS, Tenn. — WREG has learned that five members of the Memphis Area Transit Authority board have resigned following escalating tensions over the search for MATA’s next CEO—a process board members say was abruptly derailed by city leadership after months of work.
The resignations come just days after the City of Memphis announced it was extending MATA’s CEO search, canceling interviews with the two finalists who had already flown into Memphis for in-person meetings. The decision also coincides with the expiration of the city’s contract with TransPro, the consulting firm that has been managing MATA operations for the past year.
