KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Royals and Urban Youth Academy and Commerce Bank are teaming up to collect baseball and softball equipment for kids in the community.
It's part of a community collection drive that kicked off in July called “Helping Kids Take the Field.”
So far, more than 1,600 pieces of equipment have been collected and they're still taking donations.
Commerce team members spent Thursday cleaning bats and gloves, so kids at the Urban Youth Academy can play ball.
Bats, helmets, shoes and uniform pants -- these are some of the new or gently used baseball and softball items they're looking to collect.
“Kids need gear to play,” Executive Director of Administration at Urban Youth Academy Donease Smith said.
