The BP Whiting Refinery has returned to normal operations after flooding during last week's storms.

The 136-year-old former Standard Oil Refinery along the Lake Michigan lakeshore is now operating at normal rates, according to the supply-side market intelligence service IIR.

The refinery that spans across Whiting, Hammond and East Chicago was forced to take several production units down after the severe thunderstorm that flooded the refinery in neighboring roads last Monday.

The 440,000-barrel-per-day refinery supplies gas to seven states in the Upper Midwest, including Indiana, Illinois and Michigan. The largest refinery in the Midwest, it also produces diesel fuel and semi-trailer trucks, as well as jet fuel that's shipped via underground pipeline to the Midway and O'Hare internationa
