ESSEX JUNCTION, Vt. (WCAX) - It’s a frantic and fun evening at the Champlain Valley Fair.
“Yeah, it’s a very busy place right now for us,” Bob Jenkins said.
It’s called the Ten Best Days of Summer, but for Jenkins, fair time is work time.
“It’s a challenge,” he said.
Jenkins is the head of maintenance.
“When you’re in maintenance, you’re responsible for everything,” he said.
From budgets to maintaining the grounds and buildings, and even the 152 toilets.
On a good day, 14,000 people will go through the gates.
“Quite a little city, matter of fact,” Jenkins said.
He started at the fair in 1995, overseeing many projects on the grounds, like the upgrade to the Pearl Street entrance.
“I mean, it looked like prison,” he said of the old gate.
