NEWPORT, Vt. (WCAX) - Police arrested a man on Thursday who they say made threats that he planted bombs inside a Vermont school. The threats led to an evacuation at one school and a lockdown at others.
Newport police say they were notified just before 12:30 p.m. that Cypher Aiken, 25, of Newport, made a threat in a text message saying he planted bombs inside North Country Union High School.
The high school was evacuated, and other schools in the area were put on lockdown out of an abundance of caution until Aiken was arrested at a supermarket in Derby.
Police searched the high school and Aiken’s vehicle and found no explosives.
Aiken faces charges of domestic terrorism and threats. He was ordered held on $50,000 bail. He’s due in court on Friday.
