FORT BRAGG, N.C. (WTVD) -- Fort Bragg is under new leadership.

On Thursday, Maj. Gen. Brandon Tegtmeier assumed command of the 82nd Airborne Division during a ceremony at the Army installation.

The former commander, Maj. Gen. James "Pat" Work handed over command after leading the unit since November 2023.

"It is the honor of a lifetime. This division is filled with the best soldiers on the globe," Tegtmeier said. "The nation will continue to give this division its hardest problems, and it is an honor to be a part of this team. Maintaining readiness for those problems."

Tegtmeier previously served as the division's deputy commanding general for support before serving as Chief of Staff for US Central Command at MacDill Air Force Base, Florida.
