SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Community members are raising concerns after drug paraphernalia was found at Rebecca Johnson Park, which is near Rebecca Johnson Elementary School in Springfield.

Springfield Catholic schools are reviewing their safety protocols in response to the tragic shooting in Minneapolis

The discovery of needles, drugs, and alcohol bottles at the park has prompted school officials to call for increased safety measures. The park is owned by the city of Springfield, and school officials want it closed during school hours and protected with more fencing or gates.

"It's a really urgent situation so we want to make sure that our students and staff are safe on a daily basis," said Barbara Gresham, a school committee member.
