EMPORIA, Kan. —

Emporia Police Chief Edward Owens said Thursday there is no evidence of an active shooter at Newman Regional Health.

“The active shooter alarm is Newman Regional Health, not Emporia State University,” Owens said in a statement to KMBC. “As of now, we have no evidence of an active shooter. We are clearing the buildings out of precaution for the safety of employees and patients.”

In the ESU Alert, shared on X, the university said an active shooter was reported at Newman Regional Health.

“Run. Hide. Fight,” the school said. “If you are off campus, remain away.”
