ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) -A fire Thursday morning at a former industrial building along North Broadway is the latest was the latest in a cluster of incidents around the city involving abandoned buildings.

On Wednesday, a large, smoky fire at a Midtown warehouse shut down I-64 for part of the morning. Overnight on Thursday, fire crews responded to at least two abandoned house fires before the incident on North Broadway.

That property, a vacant parcel of land near a Love’s truck stop and a former municipal waste transfer station, has been a magnet for illegal dumping for several years, an issue FirstAlert4 highlighted earlier this month.

Fire officials said the fire was likely caused by unhoused people seeking shelter inside one of several abandoned structures on the land.
