COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) -On Thursday, Governor Jared Polis signed a bill into law allowing him to temporarily suspend state programs by executive order.
Under this new law, Governor Jared Polis can suspend state programs for 90 days if he finds that there are not enough funds available.
Polis then, directly after signing the law, signed an executive order authorizing a series of cuts to balance the state budget.
Governor Jared Polis said, “So the general philosophy here, and I just want to be clear, is holding K-12 and public safety harmless, and then minimizing the damage to the state by spreading the rest of the cuts across many different areas, including areas that we’ve wanted to cut for several years.”
