The Hyde Park Central School District is conducting an investigation after one of its teachers was accused of sexually exploiting teenage girls online.

Daniel Monarchi, 26, of Red Hook, was charged with one count of sexual exploitation of a minor, according to the office of the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York. Monarchi is a special education teacher at Haviland Middle School.

Hyde Park Superintendent of Schools Pedro Roman said in a news release one of the district's administrators received a report earlier in the month from an out-of-state resident raising concerns about a teacher in the district.

Roman said the administrator followed protocol and reported it to the assistant superintendent for human resources, who in turn immediately reached out to state police
