A 2 million-square-foot warehousing project is coming to Yucaipa near the hills of Live Oak Canyon.
Despite community outcry from residents in opposition to the proposal, the Yucaipa City Council approved the project in a 4-1 vote this week. Mayor Jon Thorp and Councilmembers Justin Beaver, Judy Woolsey and Bob Miller approved the project, while Councilmember Chris Venable voted against it.
“I make a motion that we reject the (updated) Freeway Corridor Specific Plan entirely,” Venable said at the council meeting Monday, Aug. 25, “leaving the existing 2008 Freeway Corridor Specific Plan in place.”
Venable said the warehouse developments would not benefit the development of additional projects and the increased truck traffic in the area would be “a disaster.”
