CANYON, Texas (KFDA) - A simple, old-fashioned tire swing sways quietly from a tree in a roadside park just south of Canyon.

While the swing serves as a children’s play thing, as designed, it has also come to represent a little more.

The swing itself was born from some childhood nostalgia.

“Well, I was just thinking back on things that I grew up with that my family had done for enrichment or to bless our time, and a tire swing was one of those things that came to mind,” said Ben Close, Canyon area resident.

Close says he decided every kid needed a tire swing, so he made it a mission to make the best swing he could.

The swing was intended to be installed at his home for kids to enjoy, but that idea hit a snag.
