PETERSBURG, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Victoria, a beloved bald eagle from Petersburg, has died. She gained notoriety for her resiliency and the role she played in the recovery of the eagle population.
She was believed to be in her 50s, which is a decade older than most bald eagles living in captivity.
Victoir and her partner, Ross, lived at the Berkshire Bird Paradise for more than 30 years. They suffered life altering injuries during the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill, which dumped 11 million gallons of crude oil into the ocean near Alaska.
Despite being crippled with damaged wings and a broken beak, Victoria and Ross made a major impact on the future of their species. The birds are believed to have produced about 10 to 20 baby eagles in the last 30 years, changing the fate of bald eagles from end
