YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) - Youngstown State quarterback Beau Brungard racked up over 250 yards of offense to lead the Penguins to a 24-15 win over Mercyhurst during the season opener on Thursday night.

Brungard, the Springfield product, led the Penguins with 114 passing yards and 158 rushing yards on 28 attempts and two touchdowns.

Also for the YSU offense, Jaden Gilbert rushed for 34 yards and a touchdown while also hauling in a team-high five catches for 34 receiving yards.

Defensively, they were led by Dathan Hickey's 13 total tackles and game-sealing interception in the fourth quarter. The Penguins forced four turnovers from the Lakers' offense.
