WESTERLY, R.I. — A young green sea turtle named Sunflower was released back into the Atlantic Ocean in Westerly, R.I. on Wednesday by the team at Connecticut’s Mystic Aquarium.
Sunflower spent nearly a year at the aquarium in Mystic, Conn. after being rescued while stranded during a cold-stunning event on Cape Cod last November.
The sea turtle arrived at the facility in December after being transferred from the New England Aquarium in Boston.
In April, Mystic Aquarium staff released 22 sea turtles at Jekyll Island in Georgia, but Sunflower needed extra time to recover after suffering from superficial frostbite in both shoulder regions and a right front flipper fracture.
