KEARNEY, Neb. —
Two people were killed in a plane crash near Kearney after the aircraft went missing Wednesday night.
The plane was scheduled to land but never arrived. According to officials, the plane was found Thursday.
The city of Kearney and the Kearney Police Department said in a news release the plane was reported missing around 9:30 p.m. Ground and air searches followed, though “fog and other weather conditions have created significant challenges,” according to the news release.
University of Nebraska-Omaha aviation expert Skip Bailey said there are two main ways to track a plane.
“One is radar, which is what everybody is used to and knows,” Bailey said. The other is through Automatic Dependent Surveillance - Broadcast, or ADS-B.
